E Series Rotor Upgrade

Client Overview

Mr Sean Connolly of M&S Connolly & Sons limited, Loughgiel Co Antrim has been a valued customer of Silverford Engineering for 10 years on a private owners contract, Mr Connolly’s turbine was commissioned in 2015.

Challenge

The original E3120 had design faults including the bedframe and main shaft, and continued to cause unnecessary downtime and costs. Silverford Engineering Limited has continually strived to work on solutions for the new bedframe design, blade design and rotor. With help from an outside source, and our sister company Earthmill, Silverford Engineering abandoned Mr Connolly’s original design and installed a new rotor arrangement created by NorZet, as failure modes were constant with cracking and detaching of hub arms and cracks in the blade holders.

Solution

Mr Connolly had team meetings with Silverford Engineering Limited, and support from NorZet, and reached the decision to install the E-Series upgrade.  Time management was in effect to install the upgrade as we were keen to have minimal downtime for installation. Careful planning and towing with the weather in Northern Ireland allowed us to install the new system in reasonable time and involved the support networks such as crane hire companies and a highly motivated and excited team here at Silverford Engineering limited.
